The Huntsville Ski Club -where we do more than ski!

The Huntsville Ski Club is a mix of singles, couples, and families.  We are a 300+ member social club with year round activities including:

                  biking, hiking and camping
                  white water rafting
                  museums and theatre
                  tennis
                  local sporting events
                  dining out and happy hours
                  dancing and parties
                  and skiing of course!

Huntsville Ski Club began in the early 1960s at the start of the NASA space program when engineering jobs were relocating to Redstone Arsenal from other parts of the country.  Over the years we have sponsored numerous ski trips to locations in western states, Canada, and Europe.  More than just a ski club, we enjoy activities year round. Among other pursuits, we hike, cycle, canoe, raft, and play tennis.  During the non-skiing season, we have outdoor trips, such as weekends in the Smokies, hikes in the Grand Canyon, sight-seeing tours of such exciting places as Washington DC, Savannah, and New Orleans.  We have also participated in cruises to wonderful foreign destinations like the Caribbean, Mediterranean, and Baltic Seas.

There is a full social calendar as well.  Summer events include a Fourth of July pool party and Friday evening cookouts.  We have a fall membership party each year with food, wine, beer, and dancing to a live band.  In December there is a semi-formal Christmas Dinner Dance, also with a live band.  We have enjoyed other social events like miniature golf, chili and casserole cookoff competitions, wine tasting, brewery tour, bowling, and dancing parties.

Did you know there is skiing right here in Alabama?  Located on Lookout Mountain near Mentone in DeKalb County, Cloudmont Resort has been in operation for over 40 years. It has a 1,000 foot slope with a 150 foot drop, snow-making and grooming equipment.  If the temperature drops below 28° F, they can make snow, and you don’t have to leave the state to ski!

www.cloudmont.com is their website.
